The colours that can be seen while diving in crystal-clear Arctic waters are awe-inspiring. This image was taken near Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, in the Canadian Arctic, and shows a boulder covered in kelp (Saccharina latissima), foliose red and brown seaweeds, and crustose coralline algae. Arctic kelp forests are critical habitats for marine biodiversity, and as an example, the white specs that you see in this image are the innumerable amphipods that make a living in seaweed forests in these cold Arctic waters.
