Solar-Powered Seaslug on Codium Seaweed

The Solar-Powered Seaslug is commonly found on the Chlorophyte Codium spp. It is a great example of kleptoplasty, where a heterotroph feeding on algae retains chloroplasts ('kleptoplasts') for active photosynthesis, becoming part-phototroph. This image was taken in a rockpool in Falmouth, Cornwall, U.K. in March 2026 with an Olympus OM-1mk2 camera. The red seaweed Dulse (Palmaria palmata) forms the orange background.
