In response to mild stress a gonidium of Volvox aureus CCAP 88/8 developed into a parthenospore—an asexual resting spore resembling a zygote— while its sister developed into a regular daughter colony. The image was taken with an Olympus ckx53 microscope equipped with a ToupTec u3cmos camera.
