This is a micrograph of a beautiful diatom, Cymbella neolanceolata, captured using a Carl Zeiss AxioImager M.1 microscope with an AxioCam MR5 with DIC optic. This species was recorded in the water of the Ribnica River in Serbia. It shows some of the diatoms' magnificent features: areolae, striae, raphe and unique shape that bond together to assemble one of the most beautiful creations of the Earth.
