Radiating Growth

"Rings" of pressed giant kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera) sporophytes and gametophytes showing their growth progression through time, alongside an adult specimen. Kelp was cultivated at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography as part of PhD student Mohammad Sedarat's research on kelp thermal tolerance in a changing climate. Different life stages were arranged and dried on paper and the final pressing was imaged.
