Sargassum Symphony

Image description:

This innocent-looking piece of holopelagic Sargassum can likely trace its origins to the Great Atlantic Sargassum Belt, an unfortunate consequence of climate change. In their original situ, the Sargasso Sea, the macroalga provide an invaluable habitat, and yet the excessive quantities arriving annually in the Caribbean now devastate ecosystems, causing social and economic strain. While considered a nuisance by many, they in fact, hold within them vast potential for carbon sequestration and supporting decarbonisation.
