DESCRIPTION:Come and join us as we explore the world of Deptford Creek algae! \n\n\n\nDuring the morning we will be exploring the Creek at the edge of our site to take samples of the mud surface and then studying them under high powered microscopes. \n\n\n\nWe expect to find a variety of algae and other organisms which we will record as part of our growing data bank. We’ll be considering questions such as: \n\n\n\n\nhow do these communities relate to the colour of the mud?\n\n\n\nwhat do we know and think about how these communities may change thoughout the day and through different seasons?\n\n\n\nhow does this new awareness of algae make you feel about it?\n\n\n\n\nSpend the morning exploring the mudbanks of the Creek and helping with valuable research into the communities of organisms that live there. As well\, we’ll also be hosting a craft activity to help participants express their creativity inspired by what you’ve explored and studied.  \n\n\n\nDue to the nature of the activities and equipment places are limited\, so book your free tickets now to join what will be a fascinating morning! \n\n\n\nThe Slimewatch project is a Creekside collaboration with filmmaker Susi Arnot who started Slimewatch at Saint Saviours Dock in 2021. \n\n\n\nFor more information see this link and this link!

DESCRIPTION:Slimewatch algae investigation! Join algae enthusiast and artist Susi to explore the microscopic world of algae! \n\n\n\nIn this special family event we will take a closer look at the green worlds growing in Deptford Creek. Make the most of the long summer evenings to join us for a special wade down in Deptford Creek. There will be lots of fun facts and stories for young people about all the living things in this unique habitat\, and their connections with the green slime all around us!  \n\n\n\nThis event will involve: \n\n\n\n\nA short walk in Deptford Creek focusing on the mud banks and algae\n\n\n\nCollecting and preparing algae sample from the Creek\n\n\n\nAnalysing these samples under the microscope\n\n\n\nObserve and study previous samples and follow our research to date\n\n\n\nMake algae and mud art\, using mud from the river\n\n\n\nModel your own algae to take home with you using clay\n\n\n\n\nSuitable for – everyone aged 8+\, all young people must be accompanied by an adult \n\n\n\nWe will provide all resources and equipment. \n\n\n\nPlease book your space below\, and for any further questions contact paddy@creeksidecentre.org.uk \n\n\n\nSee here for more information.
