BPS Algae-Video Bursaries (£300) are to support the production of short “science communication” videos (max length 120 seconds) on any algal topic that addresses the aims of the BPS (..to advance research and education by the encouragement and pursuit of all aspects of the study of algae ). Eligible to apply: all members registered to attend the online BPS Winter meeting 2021 hosted at the University of Nottingham.
Videos should reflect the applicant’s interest, or their current research project. There is no prescribed format, we are looking for creativity and accessibility. Videos should be aimed at a general audience, or a specified non-specialised target audience – key is to talk about or present your research in a way that anyone with an interest in algae can enjoy.
The BPS are also keen to encourage videos that address elements of the UK national curriculum (links to this through RSB and Geography Society). This is not a requirement of the scheme, but is an option if this particular aspect of science communication is of interest to the applicant.
Submitters of videos will grant the BPS the right to use their video clip, and to show it at meetings and events at with the BPS has an official presence. Applicants must ensure that they have created the information themselves or have permission to use any material included.
