Holdfast of Laminaria hyperborea. The yellow, shiny, smooth new growth contrasts with the brown, old rough stipe with its surface covered in bryozoans and red seaweeds. Low water spring tide, St Andrews, Scotland, at the field meeting following the annual Porcupine Marine Natural History Society conference. 31st March 2025. Photograph taken with an iPhone 16.
