Membership of the British Phycological Society is open to all. There are several membership tiers available payable on an annual basis, some with the option to access the society’s journal, The European Journal of Phycology (only members on “with Journal” subscriptions will receive electronic access, whilst also receiving a paper copy). Being a member of the British Phycological society entitles you to several benefits, aside from being part of one of the oldest learned societies devoted to the study of algae. These include access to our bi-yearly publication The Phycologist, access to issues of The European Journal of Phycology (if on a with Journal tier), a 20% discount for publishing in our Open Access Journal Applied Phycology, reduced registration costs at our Annual Winter meeting, access to apply for grants and bursaries, take part in our annual Hilda Canter-Lund photographic competition, amongst others.
Online transactions are processed securely by PayPal.com and you can pay through that system with a credit or debit card, or via Direct Debit provided by GoCardless (UK members only). We do not hold payment data on the British Phycological Society website. PayPal allows for automatic renewals if you have a PayPal account, and you can cancel your membership at any time within your Member Area on the British Phycological Society website.
In order to view your membership account and access your member benefits, your membership must be current. Subscriptions renew each full calendar year on the 1st of January (with the exception of the 3 year student membership*), members who join during the year will pay a fee for the current calendar year. If you are joining the society after from 1st October onwards, the sign up fee for the current year will be waived providing you use the coupon code (BPSFREE) on checkout (which should be applied to your shopping cart automatically). Your renewal will be charged from 1st January each year until you cancel.
The BPS welcomes and encourages commercial companies, public agencies and regulatory organisations that use or consider algae in their work to become BPS Corporate Members. Click here for further information.
