Wild SciArt

March 10, 2022 @ 4:00 pm 6:00 pm GMT

An annual meeting of marine scientists and artists with an interest in the sea to encourage collaboration. Our inaugural thematic event ‘Art, Science and Algae’ welcomes a group of creatives that utilise algal research in their practice to speak about their work. Followed by a panel session exploring issues that arise when artists and scientists want to collaborate, including funding. We will close with an open floor, encouraging contributions from all participants.

Our Keynote speaker is Anna Dumitriu. Dumitriu is an internationally renowned British artist who works with BioArt, sculpture, installation, and digital media to explore biology and robotics.

The event is hosted by the Scottish Association for Marine Science in Collaboration with the Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa.

Named in honour of oceanographer and illustrator John James Wild, official artist and secretary of the 1872-76 Challenger Expedition.

A publication with information about the event and the speakers will also be e-mailed to all that register for the event.
