After some time in the making, The British Phycological Society is proud to release its new website. The previous version was developed by Mike Guiry, and has served the Society very well over the last few years. However, with Mike rolling off as the Society’s webmaster and Andy Davies taking over the role, it was felt that we should make some updates to the site.
The new website is built upon on a content management system, WordPress, which allows for easy and frequent updates, such as the news items and various events that we will add to the site each month. But perhaps the most important update is the membership management system that we are using. In previous years, members had to take action to renew their membership, which often leads to lapsed memberships and much chasing and reminders from the Society’s Secretaries. The new site allows for automatic renewal of your membership via PayPal, providing the Society with a more predictable revenue stream, whilst also making it easier for members to manage their membership.
As part of the development of the new site, and to collect details for PayPal auto-renewal, no member details have been migrated to the new website. This means that all members will have to re-register on the new site (your old username/email and password will not work). Due to the site being released mid-way through the year, many of you are already paid-up members for 2018. So we have created a coupon code that will waive any fee on checkout. Your renewal will be processed automatically on 1st January 2019.
For non-paid up members, you can still use the coupon code as part of a “lapsed member amnesty”, but if you feel guilty about not paying for 2018 membership, then just don’t enter the coupon code on checkout. You will be charged a full membership fee for 2018, and your membership will auto-renew on 1st January 2019.
A full step-by-step instruction manual on how to re-register is available to download here, but the whole process is remarkably simple. so many of you will likely not need it. The coupon code is bpsmembers. Note that the coupon code box is not entirely obvious and you may miss it on the checkout process. It will be available until December 2018.
